A Community Doula scope goes beyond a traditional doula. Community Doulas are trained in:
1. Maternal Health Support Cultural Appreciation– Learn different cultural appreciative maternal support practices from various cultures around the world. This information can help you support clients from various cultures.
2. Public Health Champion: Community Doulas play a crucial role in promoting public health outcomes by advocating for maternal health equity and addressing disparities within communities. They raise awareness of maternal health issues, advocate for policy changes to improve access to healthcare services, and work to dismantle systemic barriers that disproportionately affect marginalized populations.
3.Human Services and Social Work Support : Community Doulas are trained in human services and social work principles, allowing them to address the broader social determinants of health that impact women’s well-being.You’ll learn how to connect your needs based clients with essential resources and support networks for long-term well-being. Learning how to connect women with resources such as housing assistance, food support programs, mental health services, and childcare options, ensuring that women have the support they need to thrive.
4.Advocacy– This is an integral part of this training. You will learn how to use your voice and or pen to speak out against systemic injustices, speak up for their clients to help them navigate the human services system, fight to ensure that all women have access to quality healthcare, and work tirelessly to create communities where every woman can thrive, regardless of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or background.or women’s rights and health equity.
